Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Promotion and Sport

Glengarry-Prescott-Russell

Jean-Marc Lalonde was elected member of provincial parliament (MPP) for the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell for the first time in 1995. He was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2007.

Jean-Marc is the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Promotion and Sport. Prior to that, he has also worked as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and Chair of the Small Business Agency of Ontario.

A former critic for Francophone Affairs and Interprovincial Trade, Jean-Marc serves as president of the Ontario section of the Association of Francophone Parliamentarians and the Chargé de Mission for the Americas. He serves as a Member of the Standing Committee on Social Policy.

Prior to his election as MPP for the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell, Jean-Marc served in municipal government for 25 years, including 15 years as mayor of the Town of Rockland. Jean-Marc was director of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) for 11 years, vice-president and charter member of the Association for Francophone Municipalities of Ontario (AFMO) , and president of the International Conference, "Afrique 2000 - Response of the Municipalities," in Africa in 1991.

He had a 34-year career with the federal government and was manager of the Canadian Government Printing Bureau, where he managed up to 104 print shops. He was responsible for printing installations at major events such as the United Nation's Habitat Conference in Vancouver, the World Bank and Monetary Fund Conference in Toronto, and the G-7 Ottawa Summit in 1984 and Technical Training and Development Officer for the Canada Communications Group.

As a passionate hockey fan, Mr. Lalonde is past president (1975-76) of the Ottawa & District Hockey Association, past director (1972-1976) of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association, and former partner of Les Olympiques de Hull (1997 Memorial Cup Champions).
