Following a contested nomination between two strong candidates, the Ontario Liberal Party is pleased to announce that Georgina Thompson has been elected as the Liberal candidate in the provincial riding of Prince Edward-Hastings.
“I am excited to represent our local association as the Ontario Liberal Party candidate in Prince Edward-Hastings in the next election,” Thompson said after winning the nomination. “I was drawn to the Ontario Liberal Party because Premier Kathleen Wynne’s incredible leadership and our Party’s dedication to the happiness and health of Ontarians. I’m committed to helping build the strongest and most innovative health care system in the world at Queen’s Park as the next MPP for Prince Edward-Hastings.”
Georgina Thompson’s ties to the region are deep. She formerly served as a councillor in Belleville and was previously chair of the South East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN). Thompson is a registered nurse who currently works at Hastings Manor Long-Term Care, following her time at Belleville General Hospital, Trenton Memorial Hospital, and Canadian Forces Base Hospital Trenton, dating back to the mid-1970s. Thompson also served as President of All-care Heath Services, a community based home support agency, for nearly three decades. In 1998 she received the Premier’s Award for outstanding achievement in the field of health sciences, highlighting an impressive career of community work in the health care sector.
The Ontario Liberal Party is pleased to welcome Georgina to our growing team of candidates and thanks fellow nomination candidate Jonathan Sprung for his participation in the nomination race. The hard work and dedication of both candidates helped set the tone for a strong nomination competition while engaging Ontarians throughout the community.
