The Ontario Liberal Party is proud to announce Piragal Thiru has been selected as the Ontario Liberal candidate for the upcoming Scarborough-Rouge River by-election.
Thiru is a long-time regional volunteer and policy professional. Through his experience in both regional and municipal governments, and through his experience as a Civic Action DiverCity Fellow, Thiru understands the riding's social and economic needs.
“I am proud to represent Kathleen Wynne’s Ontario Liberal team and to bring our positive message to my friends and neighbours in Scarborough-Rouge River,” said Thiru. “Our community needs modern transit infrastructure, state-of-the-art classrooms and quality local health care facilities. The Ontario Liberals are the only team with an effective plan to deliver on the needs of our community.”
Thiru was joined by MPP Soo Wong and members of the community in Scarborough for the nomination meeting this afternoon.
“Today’s nomination meeting was a great success for the Ontario Liberals,” said Vince Borg, President of the Ontario Liberal Party. “Not only did Scarborough-Rouge River elect an excellent candidate, we saw six impressive individuals compete in an open nomination to represent our Party and almost 5,000 Liberal members participate in the process.”
An avid community volunteer, Thiru has also served on the committees of United Way Toronto and York Region, the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation, and the Board of Directors for the Canadian Tamil Congress.
"I look forward to continuing to serve our community, to meeting voters across the riding, and to hearing about the issues that matter most,” said Thiru. “I would be honoured to fight for the constituents of Scarborough-Rouge River at Queen's Park and will work tirelessly on their behalf."
