What We Stand For
The Ontario Liberal Party has its roots in the Reform Party of William Lyon
Mackenzie and Robert Baldwin , who fought for real democracy in the 1830s and
1840s against the elitist, conservative rule of the Family Compact.
Ontario Liberals have a long tradition of working to improve the lives of all
Ontarians, from the party's pre-Confederation roots as a force for equality and
democracy to the McGuinty Liberals of today.
Today, we are working together to move our province forward - to celebrate
our diversity and equality, and to build opportunity and a brighter future for
all Ontarians.
In healthcare, surgery wait times are down and more Ontarians have access to
a family physician. In education, more students are graduating and completing
post-secondary degrees than ever before. And our ground-breaking Greenbelt
legislation will protect our environment for future generations.
But we stand for more than just protecting and preserving what we have. We
know that we must adapt, grow and create new opportunities to ensure Ontario
will be successful for generations to come. That's why we're pursuing innovative
approaches to the challenges facing our province.
In healthcare, we are opening nurse-practitioner led clinics to help even
more Ontarians access front-line medical services. In education, we have helped
laid off workers take on new careers through our Second Career program, to
ensure their futures remain bright and successful. And our government is
embracing emerging industries to create a new generation of jobs as one of
leading producers of green energy.
We know that Ontario needs to be open to new ideas, new people, new
investments and new trade ties to remain competitive and strong in today's
world.
That's why we stand for more than just looking backwards. We stand for giving
each other a helping hand to keep moving forward, together.
