New Responsibilities for Ontario MPPs

February 12th – Premier Dalton McGuinty announced today that Jeff Leal will become the Chief Government Whip.

Leal, the MPP for Peterborough, will help ensure a productive legislative session so that the government can implement its plans to strengthen Ontario's economy and support families and communities.

The Premier has asked Mike Colle to spearhead the government's efforts to help Haiti's reconstruction by working with a non-government organization to rebuild three schools. Colle, the MPP for Eglinton-Lawrence, will do this in his new role as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services (Emergency Management Ontario).

Gerry Phillips, the MPP for Scarborough-Agincourt, becomes Deputy House Leader in addition to being Minister Responsible for Seniors. Minister Phillips will work with Government Whip Jeff Leal and Government House Leader Monique Smith to deliver the government's legislative agenda.
