Only Ontario Liberals Have a Plan for Jobs and Growth

Premier Wynne Highlights Economic Record and the Ontario Way of Doing Business

May 16, 2018

TORONTO — The Ontario Liberals are the only party with a plan to continue to grow Ontario’s economy by supporting our workers and working with business.

Premier Kathleen Wynne visited Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canada Aerospace in Mississauga today to highlight the Ontario Liberal economic record. MHI is an aerospace leader, and part of the strong, modern economy we’re building in this province.

Ontario has created nearly one million jobs since the Conservatives left power in 2003. In partnership with business and workers, Liberals are growing the economy - and making sure it benefits more people.

Ontario Liberals have a vision for an economy that benefits both businesses and the people who work for them. That is both competitive and compassionate.

A re-elected Liberal government will continue to grow our economy by:

  • Standing up for Ontario workers as NAFTA is renegotiated. Over the last year, Premier Wynne has spoken with 37 U.S. Governors about trade and our integrated economy.
  • Investing in the Jobs and Prosperity Fund, partnering with Ontario businesses and creating 55,000 jobs since 2013. Recent investments at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canada Aerospace in are expected to create 90 new jobs and help maintain 636 positions.
  • Creating 15,000 more apprenticeship spaces and helping more students attend college or university by covering tuition costs and removing financial barriers to post-secondary education

The Doug Ford Conservatives would eliminate our economy-boosting Jobs and Prosperity Fund and cut billons from the services people depend on — like health care, education and transit. The NDP have no plan to strengthen Ontario’s economy – which supports the services people depend on – and they would slam businesses with a huge tax hike. Only the Ontario Liberals will build a stronger economy that supports strong public services.

The Liberal plan also expands publicly funded prescription drugs to cover one-in-two people in Ontario, makes the largest mental health care investment in Canadian history, builds a record amount of transit, boosts hospital funding, helps more people go to college or university with publicly funded tuition and lets more parents go back to work by funding preschool child care from 2 ½ to kindergarten. Ontario’s economy is growing stronger, but that growth and the care and services it funds are at risk this election.

“Only the Ontario Liberals have a plan to continue to grow our economy in a way that benefits both businesses and the people who work for them. We’ve created nearly one million new jobs in Ontario since the Conservatives left power in 2003. That’s 18 full Rogers Centres, plus a line-up to get in.”
